What is the new Antminer Z15K?
If you’ve searched for a Zcash miner in the last few weeks, you’ve probably seen the Antminer Z15K show up next to the Z15 and Z15 Pro. What is this miner and most importantly, is it legit?
Short version: Bitmain announced it on 21 August 2026, started shipping on 31 August, and it’s a new mid-range model built to meet demand that the existing lineup couldn’t.
Now everyone is wondering, is the Antminer Z15K worth the investment?

What is the Antminer Z15K?
The Antminer Z15K is an ASIC miner made by Bitmain for the Equihash algorithm. Its main job is mining Zcash (ZEC).
It’s rated at 525 kSol/s and draws 2,483W, which works out to 4.73 joules per kilosol. It runs on ordinary 200 to 240V single-phase power, has two fans, weighs 5.9 kg, and is about the size of a large shoebox (245 x 132 x 290 mm).
The “K” doesn’t stand for anything official. Bitmain’s naming puts it between the base Z15 and the Z15 Pro, and that’s the easiest way to think about it: a middle model in the same family. What does the Z15K mine?
Zcash, primarily. Equihash is the proof-of-work algorithm Zcash uses, and the Z15K is built to do nothing else.
A few other Equihash coins exist, mainly Komodo, Hush and Pirate Chain. The machine can technically mine them, one at a time, but their combined value is a fraction of ZEC’s and almost nobody points a Z15K at anything else.
One thing to get right: Horizen (ZEN) used to be the second-biggest Equihash coin and many product pages still list it. Horizen switched off proof-of-work in July 2025. It can’t be mined with this or any other machine. If a vendor page says otherwise, the page is out of date, not the coin. Horizen is no longer mineable.

The Z15K has more hashrate than the original Z15, but it burns considerably more power to get there. The Pro does everything better on paper. What the Z15K has going for it is that it exists, in stock, at a lower entry price per kilosol than a Pro.

Why did Bitmain release a new Z15K model now?
Because Zcash mining is having its best year in nearly a decade and there weren’t enough machines to go round.
ZEC spent most of 2023 and 2024 trading between €20 and €30. Most Z15s were unplugged. Then the price moved, hard: it went from around €30 in September 2025 to over €1,000 a year later (live chart on CoinMarketCap). Every Z15 and Z15 Pro that could be found was switched back on, and Bitmain’s Pro batches sold out with months-long pre-order queues.
The Z15K is Bitmain’s answer to that queue. It uses the same 12nm process and the same basic architecture as the rest of the Z15 line, so it could be brought to market quickly. It’s not a next-generation chip. It’s more of a proven chip, packaged at a size and price that gets people hashing now. The full story is in why Bitmain released the Z15K.
The Z15K was a quiet launch, timed to the WDMS 2026 summit. The Z15K was announced days before the summit and starts shipping August 31, which means Bitmain launched into three different buyer conversations, Equihash, flagship SHA-256, and rack-format, inside ten days. The summit is WDMS 2026 (Bitmain’s World Digital Mining Summit), where the S23 XP Hyd and S23e U2H got the stage time.
What do you need to run one?
Power. A dedicated 240V circuit rated for at least 15A. At 2.5 kW continuous, this is not something you plug into a shared socket.
Cooling. All 2,483W becomes heat. In a closed room, that’s roughly the output of a large space heater running non-stop. It needs airflow and an ambient temperature between 5 and 40°C.
Noise tolerance. 72 to 75 dB under load. Comparable to a vacuum cleaner, permanently. Garage, outbuilding, or hosted rack.
Network. A single RJ45 Ethernet connection. Nothing fancy.

Is the Z15K a good first Zcash miner?
Reasonable question, and the answer is “it depends on what you’re really buying”.
An Equihash ASIC only makes sense if you believe in Zcash as a coin. The machine has no other use. So the first decision isn’t Z15K versus Pro, it’s whether you want ZEC exposure through mining rather than just buying the coin. Mining gives you coins at a cost basis below spot when power is cheap, plus a machine you can sell. Buying the coin gives you liquidity and no hardware risk. Both are legitimate. They’re just different bets.
If you’ve made that decision and want to mine, the Z15K is an accessible entry: lower ticket than a Pro, available now, and built on hardware with a six-year field history. The trade-off is efficiency, which matters more the higher your power cost is.
